#green: a plant with extraordinary regenerative abilities for a truly sustainable fiber.

Growing hemp produces environmental wealth, because it is a strong and generous plant: friend of the earth and luxuriant by nature.
The hemp plant grows healthy and thriving, nourishes the soil and promotes the harvest.
The hemp plant is ecological and supports the planet, because:

  • It does not need herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers during cultivation.
  • It blooms in widespread bioclimatic areas and adapts to different types of soil.
  • It can be grown repeatedly on the same soil because it does not impoverish it, rather it oxygenates and reclaims it.
  • It requires very little water: less than a third of the water resources needed to grow cotton.
  • It grows with a density of 150 plants per square meter and reaches a height of 5-7 meters in just three months, with a high yield of extracted fibers per hectare: 250% more than cotton and 600% more than linen.
  • It reduces CO2 in the atmosphere. It absorbs an amount of carbon dioxide equal to 4 times that stored by trees.

History of Hemp

This is a material with an interrupted millenary tradition, versatile and precious: it ought to be brought back to life for a conscious style.

Hemp is a plant that has been cultivated since 8,000 BC and its precious textile fiber has crossed civilizations, eras and customs: the Romans, The Middle Ages, Renaissance and the modern world.

In the early 1940s, Italy was the second largest producer of hemp fabrics in the world after Russia and the first in terms of quality.

Thus, Veneto is the most important territory for the cultivation and manufacturing of hemp, and in Monticello Conte Otto (VI) the Canapificio Roi makes itself known throughout Europe.

In spite of this, Italy is followed by a total abandonment of the sector due to the competition with synthetic fabrics and the prohibition of the mid-seventies.

The recovery of hemp is therefore today a gesture to be undertaken for a valuable solution: valuable, beneficial and renewing.

TerraKleos uses 100% pure natural hemp fabric manufactured in Italy by the specialized ethical company Luigi Parisotto of Saracedo (VI) and 100% natural cotton and hemp fleece fabric manufactured by the Maeko Tessuti & Filati Naturali company based in Milan.
